David began dealing in 1973 in furniture, paintings and things from all periods, 1600 to the present day. He finds art and antiques of integrity and quality to sell at an extremely good price. Town and country furniture, folk art.
He operated as an itinerant dealer (runner) to the antiques trade, based in Yorkshire, then Cambridge. He returned to Wivenhoe in 1997.
He attended Erica O’Donnells’ Study Centre for Fine and Decorative Arts at the V&A, (advisory committee: John Pope Hennessy, Sir John Summerson, Canon F.J. Bartlett, Sir Trenchard Cox, Charles Gibbs-Smith, Dr.M.D.Whinney.) in 1967-68 then worked as a partner in a B.A.D.A. business from 1968-73.
The elephant in the logo was an 18th century inhabitant of the Royal Menagerie when housed in the Tower of London, retrieved from an advertisement dated 1754 that was lining a chest of drawers. The Royal Menagerie moved to Regent’s Park in 1830 and became London Zoo.
