Oil on oak panel on the back of which is painted ‘PAINTER TRADE’. The oak panel has contemporary paint with the 18th century. Signed bottom left in the straw heap with his delicate G M monogram. By George Morland.

This is probably an oil sketch for a known larger painting of this subject, discarded when the panel was broken, then used as a sign  and perhaps as an advertisement of his for his work on his journeys in the countryside whilst in an Inn or tavern.   £675
