Oil on oak panel, attributed to Cornelius Janssen or Cornelius Johnson, an Englishman with a Dutch mother. Active in England from at least 1618 – 1643 when he moved to Middleburg, Netherlands to escape the English Civil War. Painter of portraits to the gentry, he liked to charge £5 for a portrait. Red wax seal on back of panel with the arms of John Raymond of Belchamp Walter. inscribed in ink Ann L..uther and Cornelius Janssen beneath.  suggesting the panel is its original size.
