American portraits in oil on canvas, of Charles David Zetterquist and his wife Anne, . His portrait is earlier and 18th century. Hers was probably painted in 1844, at the time of his death in Iowa; the stretcher and the style of her dress, with the jet necklace (height of fashion) bears this out. His portrait bears the inscription: Charles David Zetterquist 1772 -1844.  The inscriptions were probably added in 1844 at the time Ann’s portrait was painted. His birth is recorded as 1778. I surmise that she had her portrait painted on his death to commemorate their marriage. This would explain why his portrait is painted in the 18th century in 1799 on the date of his marriage.
